Piper was always one of my faves (along with Macho Man, Misawa, Liger and Muta). I always dug his walkout when I was young because he took his time getting to the ring, like he was keeping an eye on everyone. Later he explained on a podcast that he was going for the pace of a man carrying a gun (which I guess means slow).
His in-ring psychology was great; he could brawl but he’d often turn a match around with an eye poke, which always made me pop, especially if it was the eyes of a babyface.
Great article.

The man had genuine swagger, no doubt.
