Random thoughts about a “temporary" cessation of Israel's war against Hamas

Senator Richard Blumenthal has joined the chorus calling for a “humanitarian pause” in Israel’s war against Hamas.

Blumenthal’s plea came after President Biden told the world he wants Israel to stop killing terrorists. For a while.

How long? Long enough for Hamas to rest and regroup. I mean, so the civilians Hamas forced to remain in Gaza can get enough food, water and medical supplies to remain in harm’s way.

Blumenthal’s decision to fall in line with the Democratic Party line came one day after an interview with Ghazi Hamad (above), a senior member of Hamas’ political wing. Here’s the money shot:

The [October 7 massacre] is just the first time and there will be a second, a third, a fourth because we have the determination, the resolve and the capabilities to fight.

In what world is raping, torturing, kidnapping, shooting, stabbing, beheading and burning non-combatant men, women, children and babies (both born and unborn) a “fight”?

In Hamas’ no-holds-barred world of genocidal antisemitism. A world where calling for the annihilation of Israel and all those within it is marketed under the label “free Palestine.”

But don’t take my word for Hamas’ mission. Mr. Hamad isn’t shy about coming forward, as the Brits would say.

Israel is a country that has no place on our land. We must remove that country because it constitutes a security, military and political catastrophe to the Arab and Islamic nations, and must be finished.

We are called a nation of martyrs and are proud to sacrifice martyrs.

Yeah about those martyrs…

Palestinian non-combatants occupy pride of place in Hamas’ Venn diagram of death. They may not be labeled “human shields,” but a sacrificial lamb by any other name will still die to serve the terrorists’ agenda.

Don’t take my word for it. During the 2016 Gaza uprising, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwa (above) told the world that Hamas “decided to turn that which is most dear to us — the bodies of our women and children — into a dam blocking the collapse in Arab reality.”

Every dead Palestinian woman and child is propaganda fodder for Hamas. Perpetuating a false equivalency between a terrorist organization that hides amongst civilians to kill civilians, and a national military abiding by international law to kill terrorists.

Question: is the Biden Administration’s enthusiasm for a “humanitarian pause” designed to appeal to anti-semitic Democratic voters, or is it a head fake to mollify Arabian oil producers to keep gas prices low to protect Democratic power?

Oops! I almost forgot to ask! Is it a selfless desire to alleviate the suffering of “innocent civilians”? The majority of which are entirely enthusiastic about killing Jews, even if they have to delegate that task to religious zealots.

That aside, make no mistake: Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and the rest of its death-dealing proxies are our enemies. Democrats can run but they can’t hide from the fact that these actors want to undermine American influence, kill Americans and, ultimately destroy America.

But don’t take my word for it.

Iranian Quds Force Chief Esmail Qaani (above) coordinates support for Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Yemeni Houthis and Shia militias in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Mr, Qaani recently stated Iran’s overarching ambitions loud and clear. “Iran will continue its struggle until the destruction of enemies: the United States and Israel.”

What happened to the assertion that America has to destroy Islamic extremism “over there” to prevent it from killing us here? Lost in Afghanistan?

Perhaps we should take a pause from our tail-between-our-legs non-interventionist stance for a day or two. Clean-up on aisle three. Totally doable.

To its credit, the Biden Administration has deployed massive firepower in the region – in case we need to back-up Joe’s “don’t” warning to Israel’s neighborhood thugs.

I hope we don’t have to use them. Equally, I hope the Biden Administration isn’t afraid to use them. In war as in life, he who hesitates is lost.
